Darp Approved: Awareness Sculptures

In September 2009, Derick Melander, set out to create sculptures in New York made entirely of second hand clothing. The sculpture, Into The Fold, was made from 3,615 pounds of second-hand clothing.  It was made in 1 day with over 20 volunteers, the resulting piece was a 5 x 7 foot cube made in 4 sections. The 3,615 pounds of clothing represent the amount of textile waste created by New Yorkers every 5 minutes back in 2009.

Clothing for the event was loaned by the textile recycling company,Wearable Collections.
